Social Committee

About                                                                                                                                    YIP's Social committee strives to build on the energy and interests of the organization and its members to create unique social events. These events are meant not only to give members an opportunity to get to know other young Philadelphians in a fun atmosphere, but to introduce them to parts of the city and distinctively Philadelphia institutions they might not have discovered on their own.

Schuylkill River Kayaking on July 22nd co-hosted by the Young Friends of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and Young Involved Philadelphia

A new park, a trail, many new buildings and two new bridges have recently been built or are planned for the stretch of the Schuylkill River that runs between Center City and University City. Come learn about these exciting changes from The Schuylkill River Development Corporation, who will share a vision of the future along the Schuylkill, and then glide through these exciting waters in a kayak while learning about the flora and fauna of the riverside from our friends at Fairmount Park.

Event Details
Where: Meet under the Walnut Street bridge along the Schuylkill Banks trail by the SRDC trailer. You can get there by taking the stairs off of the Walnut Street bridge West of 23rd street and Club Sweat; by accessing the Schuylkill Banks at 25th and Locust streets and walking North along the river 100 yards or so; or by accessing the trail West of the Art Museum via Martin Luther King Drive (West River Drive)

When: Tuesday July 22nd, 2008 at 5:30pm. We should be all wrapped up by about 8:30pm.

Apres: If we are not all wet, we will walk to a local spot for drinks. Light food and non-alcoholic beverages will be served during the event.

RSVP & Cost: Because of the nature of this event, we have only 30 spaces available and we must have an  exact count for the kayak outfitter. If you would like to come, please RSVP to youngfriends@pennhort.org by July 15th.

The kayak rental costs $40 per person, and we must receive your payment to guarantee your registration.  Please send a check for $40 made out to "Hidden River" as confirmation of your attendance to:

We must receive your check by Friday, July 18th to confirm your spot.

**No prior kayaking experience is needed as training will be provided.
**The trip is rain or shine, but if the weather is extremely bad and the trip must be canceled, we will notify participants that day via email.
